Fidelity Assurance Company, one of the largest
private, family-owned life and health insurance
companies in the United States, is ranked No.
47 on FORTUNE magazine’s list of the "100
Best Companies to Work For" in America.
AFA’s placing makes it the highest ranked
life and health insurance company on the list.
"Making
the FORTUNE list for the fourth time in a row
is an honor that shows the dedication the employees
and the company share to make American Fidelity

our employees want to stay and where everybody
else wants to come work."
AFA was selected
for the list after a rigorous application process
that included an anonymous employee survey. "The
100 Best Companies to Work For" list is
compiled for FORTUNE based on two criteria: an
evaluation of the policies and culture of each
company, and the opinions of the company's employees.
The latter is given more weight; two-thirds of
the total score comes from employee responses
to a 57-question survey which goes to a minimum
of 400 randomly selected employees from each
company. More than 100,000 employees from 446
companies participated in the survey this year.
It asks about things such as attitudes towards
management, job satisfaction, and camaraderie
within the organization. The remaining one-third
of the score is based on an evaluation of each
company's demographic makeup, pay and benefits
programs, and culture. Companies are scored in
four areas: credibility (communication to employees),
respect (opportunities and benefits), fairness.
In addition to the overall ranking,
AFA garnered further recognition in other categories,
including being ranked No. 9 in percentage of
telecommuters (26% of Colleagues), No. 15 in
the percentage of female employees (68% of Colleagues)
and No. 15 on the Small Companies list.
AFA is
one of the largest employers in Oklahoma City
with more than 1,400 employees. About 1,000 employees
work at its Oklahoma City headquarters, while
others span 26 locations across the United States.
AFA employees often talk about the company’s
family atmosphere, a common theme among businesses
that make the FORTUNE list.
American Fidelity
was also chosen by FORTUNE Magazine as one of
the best companies to work in 2004, 2005 and 2006!
